Working at GirlsFirst and GirlsFirst Junior

Working at GirlsFirst is a chance to interact with girls helping them to grow, make new friends, and pursue their passion of learning!

How to Apply

Teaching Applicants are asked to complete the online application and email a copy of their resume to the director. The application will ask for list two references – one professional and one personal. References will be contacted before hiring; there is no need for written letters of recommendation. However, if you do have a written letter, you may send that to the director along with your resume. 

RA and Jr. RA applicants must also complete the online application. The application asks for two references by non-family members who can attest to your qualifications as a young woman able to work with teenagers and with other camp staff. Please ask them to return the completed reference form directly to the GirlsFirst Office via email to girlsfirst@madeira.org.

Available Positions


At minimum, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in the subject they wish to teach. Candidates with teaching experience and/or camp experience are preferred. Teachers are to introduce the girls to many aspects of the subject in a hands-on, experiential, learning atmosphere. Teachers also teachers supervise their campers on an all-day field trip as well as prepare them for the Student Showcase the last day of camp Teachers work during the weekday as well as Opening and Closing Day and can live in the dorms during camp.

Resident Advisor (RA)

A Resident Advisor (RA) at Girls First! is fun, enthusiastic, friendly, responsible and caring. She knows that camp life is busy and fun and works to engage her girls in all that camp has to offer. She understands that busy campers are happy campers and always keeps an eye out for girls needing a friendly nudge toward an activity or an introduction to another camper. A RA must be able to engage girls of all ages in conversation, plan and supervise activities, and supervise girls in a dorm setting. RAs are responsible for the social and residential components of the program and work together with their dorm colleagues (the other RAs and the Jr. RAs) to quickly get to know the girls in her dorm and assist them in community living. 

RAs ensure that a wide variety of activities are planned and offered and that the program rules are being followed and the halls and common areas are kept in order.

Must have completed one year of college and have residential life and/or camp experience. 

Junior Resident Advisor (Junior RA)

Junior RAs are energetic and friendly young Madeira graduates who thrive on challenge and welcoming young campers into the Madeira community. A Junior RA must be willing to quickly get to know the girls in her dorm, and other campers she encounters, and help campers adjust to the community, Girls First! and The Madeira campus. Junior RAs assist the Resident Advisors (RAs) and the Assistant Director with planning and implementing of afternoon, evening and weekend activities. 

Must be current 11th or 12th grade student at The Madeira School. Jr. RAs work with RAs in their dorms and assist in planning, organizing, and supervising afternoon, evening, and weekend activities. 

Time Commitment

You may apply for both or just one program, however, priority will be given to those who can work both programs.
