Student Life
Whether you are a boarding or day student, you will feel at home and part of a vibrant community at Madeira.
Student Center
Madeira's Student Center, centrally located at the base of the Oval, is an excellent place for social activities and houses the Dean of Students Offices. The Center provides an informal space for relaxing, entertaining guests, and hosting parties. It includes pool tables, a flat-screen TV, DVD player, a stereo system, and casual, comfortable furnishings.
Weekend Activities
A glance at the activities online sign-up form leaves no doubt that weekends at Madeira are packed with activities for boarders and day girls. Students enjoy events offered by the student Social Committee, coed events sponsored by the twenty-three member schools of the Independent School Social Activities Committee, trips to D.C., historical and cultural explorations, weekly van runs to the distinctive shops and great eateries of nearby Tysons Corner Mall, and time to be with friends. All social activities, except local shopping trips, are chaperoned by adults. Many are free; some are "charged home."
Clubs and Activities
It is easy to get involved in Madeira's wide range of extracurricular activities. There are clubs and organizations for every interest, and students never hesitate to start a new group when common interests exist. The Club Fair at the beginning of the school year showcases options and gives you the chance to sign up for clubs that interest you. Learn more about Clubs & Community Service.
