Physical Education

Physical Education

Physical Education values the effects of regular physical activity in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and is structured to address the diverse needs and interests of the student body. The Physical Education Department is on a trimester calendar. To meet the graduation requirement, a student must earn at least six Activity/P.E. credits during the twelve trimesters of her high school career. In addition, all students must successfully complete a water-safety test to graduate. Students may satisfy their Activity/P.E. requirement through participation in physical education, dance, riding or aquatic classes or in the interscholastic sport teams program.

Independent projects
An independent project option in Physical Education is available to the applicant who meets departmental guidelines. To qualify, the student must be competing at an elite level in a sport not offered by Madeira during the trimester in question. Independent projects are not granted for riding or dance.
