    Throughout the school year, The Washington Post Fairfax Extra publishes occasional reviews of high school shows, written by student critics under the guidance of faculty mentors, as part of the Critics and Awards Program, also known as the Cappies. The program, in its ninth season, recognizes the achievements of young performers, writers, directors and stage crews.

    During the week of July 15-19, Ms. Magnus, visual arts instructor, attended the Gettysburg Yearbook Experience (GYE) sponsored by Herff Jones. The annual event hosted more than 500 college, high school and junior high school students.

    High school students review secondary school productions as part of the Critics and Awards Program for High School Theater – nicknamed the Cappies. Each participating high school selects several students to serve as critics, who attend musical and dramatic performances by at high schools, reviewing them and voting on participants for an awards ceremony in late Spring.

  • Madeira Celebrates Black History Month

    On Thursday, February 1, at All-School Meeting, Madeira’s Black Student Union presented Washington’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show Choir. The Madeira School came together in celebration of song and music for the beginning of Black History Month through a wonderful collaboration of jazz, spirituals, Motown and popular music classics.
