The Madeira Equestrian Team competed at the Swan Lake Stables USEF Show in late September, and many Snail riders found success in the ring. Kelly Nance '19 placed 3rd, 4th, and 7th in events in the older children's division. She also earned 11th in the combined WIHS classic division and placed 2nd in the Gittings Medal.
Eliza Cart '20 earned 2nd in the .80 meter jumpers division, two first place finishes and a third place finish in the .70 meter jumpers division, and 4th place in the .70 meter jumper classic division. Community rider, Irene Boehm, also received a second place and two fifth place finishes in the 2 foot, 3 inches USHJA division.
Kelly Nance reflected on her successes over the weekend. "It was a lot of fun, and the horses were really good, especially with the chilly temperatures. When I went in for the test for the Gittings, I was nervous since I generally don’t do well in the equitation. When the judge asked for the riders to drop our stirrups, I thought I was going to fall off. But my riding lessons and free rides leading up to the show really helped me to be capable of preforming to the best of my ability. It was a really easy-going show, and it was just what I needed!"
