MADEIRA SCHOOL AND CAMPUS
Madeira’s 100-year history educating girls in grades 9–12 in the Washington, D.C. area has
allowed the school to develop strong relationships with some of the capital’s most influential
professionals in order to provide girls with fresh intellectual possibilities. The campus has as
much space and student resources as many colleges, including a library, a sports center, playing
fields, a natural amphitheater, and an indoor and outdoor horse-riding facility. The 376-acre
campus is just twelve miles from Washington, D.C., and the world-class array of cultural and
historic destinations the United States’ capital city has to offer. Students visit D.C. on a variety
of occasions during the program.
HOUSES
Girls live in double rooms in Madeira’s six attractive dormitories which combine modern conveniences
with turn of the century architectural charm. Each 25-30 girl house at Madeira has its
own technology center, laundry room, and lounge. Students eat thoughtfully prepared, healthy,
gourmet meals in a spacious, newly renovated, air-conditioned dining hall.
CLASSROOMS
The 46 classrooms at Madeira include a broad range of laboratory, computer, and multimedia
features suited for our instructors’ innovative educational purposes and our students’ educational
needs. The entire campus operates on a fiber-optic computer network, including smart
boards and wireless Internet capability in all classroom buildings.
SAFETY
Student health and safety are our first concern. Our campus features 24-hour staffed, gated
security as well as nurses in residence. Our Program Directors can be reached at any time of
day or night by calling the Program Office or Security Office.
