The requirements at Madeira ensure that all students build a strong foundation in the liberal arts. They also ensure that each student has the flexibility and guidance to choose the courses that fascinate and challenge her most.

Students must enroll in courses A through D blocks during each module. In a complete year they will have 21 academic clocks and 7 activity (D) blocks. A half-year course is one or two modules. A full-year course is three or four modules.Successful completion (passing grade) of a course is 60 or above.

Additionally, students must meet Co-Curriculum requirements each year. A complete schedule of activities is seven (7) D blocks (1 D block per module). Students will receive a grade of pass or fail and a written comment at the end of each activity. A list of a student's activities and grades is attached to her transcript.

In order to meet graduation requirements:

  • Grades 9 and 10 must sign up for at least 4 of 7 athletic blocks
  • Grades 11 and 12 must sign up for at least 3 of 6 athletic blocks (if the seventh is Co-Curriculum). If Co-Curriculum will not be the seventh block, then choose 4 of 7 athletic blocks.
