Prepared for Anything
“I think of freshman year as a metaphorical and physical leap of faith. I was scared of heights, but as part of an Inner Quest zipline activity I had to get over that and jump. Despite not feeling con- fident in my public speaking skills, I had to stand up and speak in front of my teachers and friends. I learned to trust in my own abil- ities and those of the people around me, and that really prepared me for my work tutoring students my sophomore year. Going into junior year, I was confident that I had the skills to work on the Hill.
All the little things that Madeira teaches you, like being punctual, speaking with adults, and always giving your best effort, prepared me. As a senior at Voice of America, I’m helping worldwide initiatives for freedom of expression and democracy.”
